KARN NOW ALL-TIME WINNINGEST HEAD COACH AFTER DOUBLE HEADER WINS

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Softball Head Coach Lauren Karn and her Golden Grizzlies squad tallied 1-0 and 3-1 wins at home Tuesday against Youngstown State to move her into the all-time winningest head coach title in program history.

GAME 1

Things were quiet in the top of the first as Sydney Campbell would go through the Penguins' battery three up and three down before Cammie Brummit's single would give Oakland its first hit of the day in the bottom of the stanza.

Three-straight swinging strikeouts would be the result for YSU while Jessie Munson would start off her stout day with a leadoff single in the top of the second as OU would get nothing more out of it. This would remain the story for much of the first game; three and out by Youngstown State followed by a single or two by Oakland until the bottom of the sixth.

Munson would once again start off the lineup with a single up the middle as Shannon Carr's sacrifice bunt would advance her to second. Madi Herrington would then double to center field, bringing Munson around for the RBI. The Penguins would once again go three-and-out as the game would conclude in the middle of the seventh 1-0.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Munson led the team with a 3-3 showing as Herrington would scout the only RBI on the day for Oakland
  • Brummitt would record two hits
  • Campbell allowed one hit and record seven strikeouts to improve to 15-6 on the season
GAME 2

Only six batters total between either team would start off a fast-paced start to game two in Rochester as Youngstown State kicked off the second frame with a single as a walk would bring the runner into scoring position, scoring off an RBI as YSU took the 1-0 early lead.

Jen Krizka would try and replicate the same for Oakland in the bottom of the frame behind yet another hit on the day by Munson but the Golden Grizzlies were unable to come up with much out of the stanza.

For the next couple of innings, both teams would get into a duel that saw Brummitt record a double but not much more in terms of scoring runners for the home white as OU would leave the bases loaded, heading into the dugout twice in that situation.

With Brummitt on third, a sacrifice fly by Krizka would bring the redshirt senior across to knot the game up at 1-1 heading into the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Munson would get a leadoff single to left field and advance to second off a sacrifice bunt from Carr and then to third off an error by the all red jersey away team. Munson would then score off a wild pitch by Youngstown State, moving Reese Ruhlman over in the process. Allisa DiPrima's double to center field would lift the Golden Grizzlies up 3-1.

An error by Oakland and a single to left would suck the air out of the Oakland Softball Field with one out remaining and the Penguins' bats humming in the seventh as two-straight ground outs in the glove of Madison Jones would quell those worries for the double header victory at 3-1.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Muson hits 2-3 in game two with a run as Krizka goes 2-2 with an RBI
  • The final RBI was recorded by DiPrima
  • Campbell gets credit with the win, improving to 16-6 on the year for the redshirt sophomore who allowed one hit in two innings of work
With the win, as mentioned, Head Coach Karn became the all-time winningest Softball coach in Oakland University program history as the fifth-year leader bagged her 92nd win at the helm.

The Golden Grizzlies will remain home for a full, three-game series against Robert Morris on April 29-30 in Rochester, Michigan.
