INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Horizon League announced Oakland Softball athlete Lauren Griffith as its Nike #HLSB Athlete of the Week from her 5-9 plate appearance in the UIC series announced on Tuesday.

Griffith lifted Oakland to the series win against the Flames in Chicago last weekend in a 5-9 showing while up to bat with four runs, three home runs, and six RBI. In the second game against UIC, Griffith was perfect at the plate (3-3) and knocked two home runs for the 10th occurrence in program history to where a student-athlete has batted two homers in a single game. 

This is the first time Griffith has been honored with the award this season, the fourth total player of the week award, and fifth total accolade in player of the week and pitcher of the week combined. This is also the second-straight week Oakland Softball has received the award after Madison Jones and Sydney Campbell swept both titles last week. OU is the only program in the Horizon League with back-to-back honorees to date.

The Golden Grizzlies will defend home turf on Wednesday, April 18 as Horizon League foe IUPUI will be in Rochester for a double header starting at 1:00 p.m.
