FIVE DOUBLES, BRUMMITT, AND GRIFFITH SEAL THE WIN AT PFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A season-high five doubles combined with Cammie Brumitt's and Lauren Griffith's plate appearances would outwork the home Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons 7-1 on the road in Fort Wayne Friday afternoon in Horizon League play.

Both teams went three up and down to start the first inning before the Mastodons would get their first, and only, run across off a Golden Grizzlies error and an RBI single through the left side to go up 1-0 after the second frame.

Oakland would answer with a big inning in the top of the third as Maci Brown batted a leadoff single to the pitcher, advancing to second off a wild pitch then to third as Madison Jones would get on base to load the corners. Brummitt doubled, the first of five for OU, to left field to bring both runners around and to jump out to the 2-0 lead with no outs.

The third inning was not done as Griffith would make the second-straight double to short stop as Brummitt would get across home plate at 3-1. Griffith would make it 4-1 off Jen Krizka's single plus Shannon Carr's single through the left side to end the scoring for Oakland.

PFW would leave a base runner on in their third inning attempt as the Mastodons left things open for the Golden Grizzlies to advance two more through with Jones reaching on an error followed by Brummitt's second double. Griffith would then also make back-to-back doubles for a two-run RBI for the 6-1 lead.

A double play would finish the home Mastodons' fourth inning before the home team would make short work of Oakland's fifth frame attempt. In the sixth, OU's Brown reached on the third, and final, error made by PFW as Brummitt would once again get an RBI off a single to bring Brown home for the unearned run.

With the game at 7-1, Sydney Campbell reached her fourth strikeout as PFW's hopes at reclaiming the lead would falter down the stretch as Oakland would grab their fourth consecutive Horizon League win.
