CAMPBELL ECLIPSES 200 STRIKEOUTS TO FINISH SWEEP OVER PFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Oakland University Softball redshirt sophomore Sydney Campbell struck out her 200th career batter Saturday afternoon as the team finished the sweep over Purdue Fort Wayne and remained undefeated in conference play.

GAME ONE

PFW would strike first in the day's first game at noon before Jen Krizka would smack a leadoff homer over left field to tie it up quickly in the top of the second inning. OU's offense would stall ahead of the defense holding through four batters in the bottom of the inning.

The Golden Grizzlies scored again in the third as Cammie Brummitt reached on an error by PFW as Krizka would get an RBI single up the middle to go up 2-1. Both teams would see no scoring before the Mastodons notched a two RBI single to left field to go up 3-2 through the Golden Grizzlies would get three more runs in the top of the sixth as Jessie Munson, Madi Herrington, and Maci Brown would get across the bag as the score would hold for the 5-3 win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Krizka would lead the charge at the plate with three appearances, one run, and two hits with the home run plus two RBI
  • Munson and Brummitt would combine to generate similar stat lines at 4 at bats, one run, and two hits through Brummitt recorded an RBI
  • This is Krizka's first home run of the season
  • Mia Konyvka would get the win in the circle to improve to 1-2 with seven hits through 4.2 innings
  • Campbell gets the save in the game, recording three strikeouts
GAME TWO

In this low scoring rubber match, Madison Jones' leadoff bunt to third base allowed for Lauren Griffith's sacrifice fly ball for Romeo native to make it 1-0 for OU early on. The Oakland defense would roll through four batters in the first as PFW would force the Golden Grizzlies to go three up and three down in the second set.
It wasn't until the fourth inning with Krizka's single to left and advance on a wild pitch (Kayla Gibson in to pinch run) that Shannon Carr would double, bringing in Gibson for the extra run that would stick through the fifth inning as Jones' home run to left field brought in two across in Brown and Reese Ruhlman for the 4-0 edge.

At the second to last batter of the game, the Mastodons got one run across but Campbell would seal the win with a swinging strikeout as the LaGrange, Ohio native eclipsed 200 career strikeouts on the day.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jones brought in two runs off three hits and two RBI to lead the Golden Grizzlies' battery, adding her third home run of the year
  • Campbell is now 9-5 on the year with one run off seven hits and three strikeouts in game two
At 6-0 in the conference, Oakland will play a final non-conference game at Michigan State once more on Tuesday, April 5 at 5:00 p.m. in East Lansing.
