OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION POWERS OAKLAND PAST MICHIGAN

The Golden Grizzlies tied a season-high with 14 runs and racked up a season-best 19 hits

Ann Arbor, Mich. – Jumping out of the gate with six runs in the first inning, Oakland defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 14-7, on Wednesday, March 30 at Ray Fisher Stadium.

The 14 runs tie a season-high and the 19 hits the Golden Grizzlies racked up established a new season-best.

Now on a four-game win streak, Oakland improves to 11-12 (4-2 Horizon League). Michigan is still two games above .500 at 13-11 (2-1 B1G).

Dating to their May 17, 2016 meeting, the Golden Grizzlies have now won two of the last three against the Wolverines.

Nine different Golden Grizzlies recorded a hit and five had multiple knocks, led by graduate student second baseman Brad Goulet with four and redshirt junior shortstop Thomas Green, senior first baseman Jared Miller, and redshirt senior right fielder Brenton Phillips, all of whom had three.

Six of Oakland's hits went for extra bases, including a solo home run by freshman third baseman Brandon Nigh – tucked just inside the right field foul pole – to extend the lead to 7-0 in the second.

Inheriting a two-on, two-out jam in the third, sophomore right-hander Brandon Decker ended up delivering 3.2 sparkling innings of one-hit baseball, picking up his second win of the year.

Decker relieved junior lefty Travis Densmore, who worked the first 2.2 frames, allowing four runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Following Decker's exit with one out in the seventh, junior left-hander Chase Keeney and Nigh handled the final eight outs to seal the deal.

The first of eight Michigan pitchers on the day, sophomore southpaw Logan Wood, an Orchard Lake St. Mary's product, took the loss. He allowed five earned runs on six hits over two-thirds of an inning.

Three Wolverines – second baseman Ted Burton, right fielder Clark Elliott, and designated hitter Jimmy Obertop, all juniors – went deep in the game. For Burton, the blast tied him with fellow junior Tito Flores for the team lead in home runs with seven.

Redshirt junior righty Brett Hagen, the reigning Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, will be on the mound for Oakland.
