ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland women's basketball team will take on Youngstown State in the quarterfinals of the Keeps Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship Thursday, March 3 from the Beeghly Center in Youngstown Ohio.
Tipoff against the Penguins will be at 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Oakland (14-14, 11-9 HL) enters the game as the no. 7 seed, while YSU is the second seed in the tournament after earning a share of the Horizon League's regular-season title with a 24-5 overall record and an 18-4 mark in conference play.
The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a 54-45 first round win over reigning Horizon League Tournament champion, Wright State.
Youngstown State is 14-2 this season at Beeghly Center, but one of those losses came to Oakland on Jan. 30. Oakland is 0-2 all-time against YSU in the Horizon League tournament.
The Golden Grizzlies have won three of their last four games, and was just one of the four teams to hand the Penguins a loss during the regular season. In Oakland's win over YSU, three Golden Grizzlies recorded double figures, led by
Brianna Breedy with 14 points.
Breanne Beatty added 11, while
Kahlaijah Dean added 10.
If the Oakland can prevail against the Penguins, it would advance to the semifinals of the Keeps Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship in Indianapolis. The Golden Grizzlies would play at either noon or 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. It would mark the first time since joining the Horizon League the Golden Grizzlies would advance to the semifinals.
