GOLDEN GRIZZLIES FINISH SWEEP OF NORSE FOR PERFECT #HLSB START

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – A 5-4 win over Northern Kentucky on Friday afternoon gave Oakland University Softball the sweep to start 3-0 in Horizon League play.

A home run in the bottom of the first would kick things off in Kentucky as the Norse would go up 2-0 over Oakland early before the Golden Grizzlies would send up four batters in the top of the second, leaving one on as Sydney Campbell would put three-straight down to retire the inning.

With that game still at 2-0 in favor of the home NKU team, Maci Brown's single to left field would get her on base only to be brought around behind Lauren Griffith's RBI double to center as Oakland would pull within a run of the Norse at 2-1 after two and a half innings. NKU would go three-up-and-down to end the inning.

The top of the fourth would prove to be golden for the Golden Grizzlies as Madi Herrington would be walked, advancing to second off Brown's single, and then to third Madison Jones' fielder's choice. Cammie Brummitt would hit an RBI single to shortstop to bring the tying run across the bag before Griffith hammered two RBI for the 4-2 edge.

NKU would get one run off the team's second home run of the day at 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth as the score would hold through the fifth with OU going three-up-and-down in the top of the sixth. The Norse would tie it up at 4-4 off a double.

With three outs to work with, Griffith was walked and advanced to second off Jen Krizka's hit up the middle of the infield. NKU would load the bases after walking Jessie Munson as Herrington's sacrifice fly brought Griffith home for the 5-4 lead.

Campbell would record two strikeouts, the final one being a strikeout looking, as the Norse didn't have an answer to hand OU the 5-4 win.
