INDIANAPOLIS — The 2022 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships continued Friday evening at the IU Natatorium (NAT) with Oakland continuing its success from the first two days of competition. The Golden Grizzlies currently lead the standings in the women's competition with 624 points and the men's competition with 479 points.
Getting the evening started was freshman
Jordyn Shipps winning the women's 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.07, while teammate
Mia Keranen (54.67) placed second. On the men's side
Mack Flowers placed third, touching the wall in 47.65.
Senior
Madelyn Cislo took the women's top podium spot in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:22.53.
Julia Cook took home third, finishing the race in 4:25.83.
On the men's side of the 200-yard freestyle, Oakland had a sweep of the podium with
Rudy Aguilar finishing in first with a NCAA B cut time of 1:36.02,
Jonas Cantrell finishing in second with a NCAA B cut time of 1:36.32, and
Danylo Hrebelnyi finishing in third with a time of 1:36.71.
Oakland took the top two spots in the 100-yard breaststroke led by
Sydney McDowell winning the event with a time of 1:02.69. Teammate
Taylor Bailey battled to a second place finish (1:03.03), touching the wall a tenth of a second faster than the third place finisher. On the men's side,
Christian Bart came in second with a NCAA B cut time of 53.02.
In the final individual swimming events on the evening,
Susan LaGrand of Oakland won the women's 100-yard backstroke finishing with a NCAA B Cut time of 53.88. Capping off the final individual swimming event of the evening was
Marko Khotynetskyi of Oakland winning the men's 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a NCAA B cut time of 46.88.
In the women's 1-meter diving competition
Ellie Chalifoux finished in third scoring a NCAA B cut score of 279.45.
Oakland's women were the first to touch the wall in the 400-yard medley relay with a team of LaGrand, McDowell, Keranen and Shipps with a time of 3:40.76. For the second night in a row, the Oakland men had a disqualification in a relay, costing the Golden Grizzlies 40 points.
