Season-high point totals for senior Jalen Moore and sophomore Chris Conway lead Oakland past Green Bay

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Stringing together consecutive victories for the first time in 2022-23, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies bested the Green Bay Phoenix, 81-65, on Saturday, December 31 at the O'rena.

With this latest win, the Golden Grizzlies are now 4-11 this season and back to .500 in Horizon League play at 2-2. Green Bay, meanwhile, is now 2-13 and 1-3 in the conference.

Hitting 13 of his 15 free throw attempts, senior point guard Jalen Moore paced Oakland with 25 points and five assists, with junior Rocket Watts adding 16 and sophomore Chris Conway gave the Golden Grizzlies 14 and nine rebounds. For Conway and Moore, these were season-high point totals.

Redshirt junior Randy Tucker registered a team-best 17 points for the Phoenix, followed by sophomore Cade Meyer with 11 and senior Ryan Wade, an Ann Arbor Skyline graduate and Central Michigan Chippewas transfer, with 10.

Oakland led by ten, 38-28, at the halftime break and took further control by going on a 15-4 run in the first 4:16 of the second half to give themselves their largest lead of the afternoon at 21.

The Golden Grizzlies shot over 50 percent from the floor for the second-straight game, finishing 30-55 (54.5 percent). Led by Moore's career-high number of attempts, Oakland was also an extremely strong 16-19 (84.2 percent) at the free throw line.

After doing so just once in their first 13 contests, Saturday marked back-to-back games the Golden Grizzlies have held the opposition to 65 or fewer points and Oakland rattled Green Bay into 14 turnovers.

The battle on the glass was close to even, with the Golden Grizzlies recording 30 rebounds and the Phoenix 27, and Green Bay ended up with 17 assists to Oakland's 11.

Beginning a two-game road trip to the Bluegrass and Buckeye States, the Golden Grizzlies will next be in action on Friday, January 6 against the Northern Kentucky Norse at Truist Arena at 7 p.m.

This will be followed by a clash with the Wright State Raiders at the Nutter Center on Sunday, January 8 at 1 p.m.
