Townsend Grabs Another 30-Point Game in Loss

BOISE, Idaho. – After a 12-day hiatus, Oakland University Men's Basketball took to the floor at ExtraMile Arena as the home Boise State Broncos handed the Golden Grizzlies a 77-57 loss on Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos (10-2, 0-0 MWC) started out the game with a deep ball just 25 seconds into the contest as Trey Townsend began his stout outing with a triple of his own with Rocket Watts getting in on the action early on as well with a jumper for the 5-3 lead.

With 16:07 to go in the first half, Boise State knotted things up at five apiece as both teams struggled to get shots to fall with Blake Lampman and Townsend going back-to-back from deep as the Golden Grizzlies (2-10, 0-2 #HLMBB) would go 4-16 (25%) from range in the first frame.

Townsend gave Oakland its last lead of the game with 11:00 to go in the first before the Broncos would force the Golden Grizzlies into a five-and-a-half-minute scoring lull as the game would stay tight with Brody Parker getting his first points of his 2022-23 season with a minute and a half to go.

Boise State saw themselves up by seven at the break with Townsend leading Oakland with 15 points to his credit, nearly 63% of the team's scoring through the first 20 minutes as the Golden Grizzlies shot 29.41% (10-34) from the field.

Parker backed up his late first-half shot with Oakland's first out of the break with the Broncos loading up six-straight points through three minutes for a 13-point lead with 17:00 to go in regulation.

Watts and Keaton Hervey drilled back-to-back jumpers with the Broncos sprinkling in scoring runs that suffocated the efforts of Townsend, going up by as much as 23 points en route to the seventh-straight loss on Oakland's record.

The Oxford native now has two, 30-plus point games finishing with a flat 30 in the scorebook with a team-leading eight rebounds to his credit. Hervey came next for the Golden Grizzlies with nine points and six assists.

The Golden Grizzlies' second-half scoring outdid the first behind a 43.33% (13-30) field goal percentage, totaling 35.9% (23-64) through the whole 40 minutes. Oakland had more points off turnovers (11) to the Broncos' nine while only going to the free throw line eight times.
