Men's soccer battles Cleveland State in #HLMSOC Tournament Semifinal Thursday

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Making the trip to Cuyahoga County and the Southern Shore of Lake Erie, the No. 4 Oakland Golden Grizzlies will square off with the host and No. 1 Cleveland State Vikings in a Horizon League Men's Soccer Tournament Semifinal on Thursday, November 10 at 1 p.m.

Entering play with a record of 4-9-5 (4-2-3), Oakland earned their spot in this match by defeating the Robert Morris Colonials in a quarterfinal on Sunday, November 6.

For the Vikings (9-3-5, 5-1-3), meanwhile, this will be their first action since their regular season finale on Wednesday, November 2, a 1-1 draw with the Green Bay Phoenix.

ALL-TIME SERIES AND LAST MEETING
First meeting on August 31, 2012, the Golden Grizzlies and Cleveland State have become quite familiar with each other over the last 10-plus years, playing 14 times. Oakland has won 10 of these, including the 2021 Horizon League Tournament Championship Match in Rochester.

The Vikings did, however, win the most recent battle, a 1-0 decision in Cleveland on October 8.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
Junior Bojan Kolevski and senior Pablo Kawecki, both of whom earned First Team All-Horizon League recognition this season, lead Cleveland State's attack, tallying 19 and 17 points, respectively.

Senior Omeed Naeemy has handled most of the goalkeeping duties, registering a .688 save percentage and five shutouts over 12 starts.

HORIZON LEAGUE TOURNAMENT RUNDOWN
The No. 2 Wright State Raiders and No. 3 IUPUI Jaguars will clash in Thursday's other semifinal, coming up after the Oakland match at approximately 4 p.m.

Thursday's two winners will face each other on Saturday, November 12 at 1 p.m. for the Horizon League Tournament Championship and an automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament.
