ROCHESTER, Mich. – On Wednesday, Oakland University Women's Soccer student-athletes Sophie Wisley and
Karabo Dhlamini were named United Soccer Coaches 2022 All-North Region teams by the organization.
Wilsey garners this award following a 2022 season that saw the Laingsburg, Michigan native be awarded the 2022 #HLWSOC Player of the Year honor in addition to a Defender of the Year and All-Horizon League First Team listing. The fifth-year started in 18 matches in 2022 with three goals, playing in all 90 minutes in 13 games.
The College Sport Communicators organization also revealed that Wilsey was Academic All-District a short time ago along with another #HLWSOC All-Academic stamp as she aided the defense to a low goal against average of .58 on the field.
"Sophie has finished off her college career in style. She was a key leader on and off the field for the team and was a key aspect of our team's defensive success all year," said Head Women's Soccer Coach Juan Pablo Favero, "I could not be more proud for her growth over her career as a Golden Grizzlies player."
Dhlamini appeared in 17 games in 2022 with a single goal against Robert Morris with three other assists sprinkled through the season, two of which came against Wright State and one against Detroit Mercy. The South African native also found her name on the #HLWSOC All-League First Team mention following the season's conclusion.
"Karabo's technical and tactical ability has been recognized by all who have seen her play, and we are grateful to have such a special player on our team these past two seasons," said Favero.
