Cole Scores Sixth Goal as Women's Soccer Earns Draw with Raiders

DAYTON, Oh. — The Golden Grizzlies put on a dominant performance in their match against the Wright State Raiders on Sunday, but weren't able to pull away for the win, playing to their second consecutive draw, tying 1-1 in Dayton.
Despite the result, Oakland ended the game with wide advantages in shots (12-to-5), shots on goal (5-to-2), and corner kicks (8-to-4), continuing a positive trend for the squad.
The match between Oakland and Wright State began with both teams seeking early opportunities to establish control. Oakland's offensive efforts were highlighted by multiple corner kicks in the opening minutes, creating pressure on the Raiders' defense. Kimee Liu initiated an attack with a shot in the 13th minute, followed by Mallory Anderson's attempt shortly after.
More shots came later in the opening half as Alli Leonard put one on goal in the 31st minute. Despite maintaining offensive momentum while also holding Wright State to zero shots in the half, the period ended knotted in scoreless fashion.
The second half began with Oakland pressing forward, taking control of the match with consistent attacking plays. In the 57th minute, Brae Cole capitalized on a corner, scoring an Olimpico style goal directly from the corner flag to give Oakland the 1-0 lead.
Wright State responded with increased pressure in the latter stages of the half. A late corner in the 88th minute led to a goal by Olivia Stroud, leveling the score at 1-1, where the game would end with that same score.
Cole scored the only goal for Oakland, her team-best sixth of the season, on her only shot. Anderson led the team in shot attempts with four, registering one shot on goal. Liu, Dakota Jarrett, and Alli Leonard contributed with two shots each as well.
Next, Oakland gears up for a home matchup against Purdue Fort Wayne. The contest is set for October 4th at 7 p.m. at the Oakland Soccer Field in Rochester, Mich.
