Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | David Gibson

Late Run Not Enough as Spartans Run Away from Golden Grizzlies

NASSAU, Bahamas. – On Saturday afternoon, Oakland University Men's Basketball fell to San Jose State in the consolation bracket of the Nassau Championship 80-67 at the Baha Mar Convention Center.

Both teams would see success early on as the game hung around the 8-8 mark with 14:30 to go as Chris Conway and Jalen Moore were able to string together successful shots early. Back-to-back shots by Will Shepherd and Lorne Bowman II had OU within three 16-13 before the Spartans would never look back.

With 2:22 left in the half, San Jose State game held an 18-point advantage at 39-21, pushing it to as much as 22 with Moore and Osei Price taking over down the stretch heading into the locker room as the senior hit both free throws and a jumper ahead of Price's layup in the paint. The game stayed at a 20-point 47-27 mark after the first 20 minutes as San Jose State would outshoot Oakland from the field 60% (18-30) to the Golden Grizzlies' 35% (10-28).

SJSU picked right up where they left off straight out of the gate in the second frame, going on a 6-0 run before Moore put up three-straight of his own with a jumper and free throw. A mixture of Trey Townsend and Shepherd had OU on a 6-2 run of their own, only to see a suffocating 17-point deficit after a few more possessions at the 10-minute mark.

From there, things got a little interesting. Moore sparked a run that saw Blake Lampman drain shots from range ahead of Townsend's layup that brought the Spartans' lead back down to a three-point bridge at 65-62 with 5:22 to go.

San Jose State's response would do Oakland in with a 10-0 run that spanned close to three minutes, finishing game two of the Nassau Championship by a 80-67 score at the end of regulation.
