ROCHESTER, Mich. – On a splendid fall afternoon in the Great State of Michigan, the Golden Grizzlies wrapped up their regular season in style on Wednesday, November 2, establishing a new season-high in goals in their 4-1 victory over the Northern Kentucky Norse at the Oakland Soccer Field.
The Golden Grizzlies concluded the regular season at 4-9-4 (4-2-3), earning themselves the No. 4 seed and a home date with the No. 5 Robert Morris Colonials in a Horizon League Tournament Quarterfinal at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 6.
No. 3 IUPUI will host No. 6 Detroit Mercy in the other Horizon League Tournament Quarterfinal, which will take place at the same time on Sunday, with the No. 1 Cleveland State Vikings and No. 2 Wright State Raiders awaiting the winners in the November 10 semifinals.

RECAP OF WEDNESDAY'S ACTION
After coming close a few times, including hitting the crossbar with a header against IUPUI on October 22, redshirt freshman
Zach Townsend broke through for his first collegiate goal in the 7
th minute, coming off a free kick by redshirt junior
Owen Smith.
Junior Deryn Armstrong netted the equalizer for the Norse in the 10
th minute, but senior
Dawsun Schrum put Oakland ahead for good in the 16
th, with Smith picking up his second assist of the contest.
The capper on a four-point match, Smith extended the Golden Grizzlies' lead to two goals in the 60
th minute. An inverse of the previous tally, it was Schrum who recorded the assist on this one.
Freshman
Charlie Retzer registered his first goal – and first points – of his career with two seconds remaining in the tilt. Likewise, sophomore
Kai Garvey received his first point of the season with the assist.
Continuing his impressive campaign, which could culminate in a possible All-Horizon League selection, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Michael Sly, Jr. finished with seven saves, bringing his season total to 88.
MATCH NOTES
- Wednesday was Oakland's second-straight victory in the series between these two programs and moves the all-time record to 5-2-1 in the Golden Grizzlies' favor
- There were two yellow cards issued in the match, both on Northern Kentucky:
- Senior Sam Robinson (30th minute) and freshman Christian Sjolander (55th)
