Oakland Set for Back-to-Back Matchups With GVSU and Eastern

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland Men's and Women's Swim and Dive Team will be hosting GVSU at home on Friday, November 11th at 5:00 p.m., and then the women's team will hit the road to compete against Eastern Michigan on Saturday, November 12th at 1:00 pm.

Most recently, the team competed at the Atlantic 10 Challenge bringing back the first-place gold for both the men's and women's teams. Swimmers Susan LaGrand and Marko Khotynetskyi left their mark with impressive times to be named Horizon League Swimmers of the Week. The dual meet matchup with GVSU will be the 6th meet for the Golden Grizzlies this fall, and Eastern Michigan will fall into place as the seventh.

Swimmers checking in with first-place wins this season so far include Lagrand, Taylor Bailey, Mia Englender, Jordyn Shipps, Ronja Riihinen, Julia Cook, and notably Sam Theissen, Sohvi Nenonen, and Bella Gary punching their winnings from the Atlantic 10 Challenge. Alongside the women, Khotynetskyi, Christian Bart, Jonas Cantrell, Dane Herrick, Andrew Bernsdorf, Harry Nicholson, James Hart, Christopher Palvadore, and Sam McKenzie have all made remarkable first-place finishes in their respective events this season. 

Both the Golden Grizzlies men's and women's swimming and diving teams received the top number of first-place votes in the #HLSD poll for the 2022-23 season receiving 36 votes each.

SCOUTING REPORT

The GVSU Lakers are currently undefeated for the 2022-23 season, most recently defeating Northern Michigan in both men's and women's heats. This will be the fourth meet for the Lakers this season as they make the trip on to Rochester.

Swimmers on the rise for the Lakers include Melina De Cort for her performances in the backstroke, Rebecca Free for her performances in the freestyle/ backstroke, and Sarah Buscas for the butterfly. Additionally, for the men, Eric Heiber for his performances in the freestyle, Keegan Hawkins for his performances in the individual medley, and Jon Katzenbach for the butterfly. 

Additionally, this will be the fourth meet for the Eastern Michigan Eagles this season. Notable swimmers for the Eagles based on their individual meet performances are Ali Staver for the fly, and Alexandra Cudo for the free.
