INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Publicly released by the conference at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, Oakland Golden Grizzlies senior midfielder
Ville Ahola earned a spot on the 11-member Horizon League Men's Soccer All-Academic Team.
Voted on by each Horizon League member institution's Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR), student-athletes must have possessed a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, have completed one year at their current school and passed 24 semester credit hours, and have appeared in 50 percent of their team's matches this season to be eligible for one of these prestigious All-Academic spots.
An Exercise Science Major with a 3.83 GPA who hails from Jarvenpaa, Finland, Ahola is the only Golden Grizzly to have started all 16 of the program's matches this fall and is second on the squad with five points (two goals and an assist).
A Second Team All-Horizon League selection in 2021, Ahola becomes the fourth Oakland men's soccer player to be named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team over the last five years, joining Noah Jensen, who accomplished the feat in 2018, 2020 and 2021, Evan Sawula, a two-time honoree in 2018 and 2019, and Adam McAleenan in 2021.
Ahola and his teammates will round out their regular season on Wednesday, November 2 at 2 p.m. when the fourth-place Golden Grizzlies welcome in the Northern Kentucky Norse.
