Oakland Swim and Dive Hosting Michigan for Home Non-Con Meet

ROCHESTER, Mich - The Oakland Men's and Women's Swim and Dive team will be hosting Michigan this Saturday, October 8th at noon in the Oakland Aquatic Center.

This is the third non-conference meet of the season for the Golden Grizzlies. Excitement builds for Saturday's matchup because it is the only time this season that Oakland will be competing against a Big Ten Team.

The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a 1-1 draw from their most recent meet with Miami Ohio where the women came just short at 208-92 and the men took the win at 160-140. However, the intensity of competition built up as multiple Oakland swimmers took first in their respective events; a couple of them being Susan LaGrand in the backstroke, Christian Bart in the breaststroke, and more Golden Grizzly swimmers making it to the top of the leaderboard.

Oakland has multiple swimmers making headway for a successful season. Swimmers on the women's team making their mark with first-place wins this season so far are Susan Lagrand, Taylor Bailey, Mia Englender, Jordyn Shipps, Ronja Riihinen, and Julia Cook. Alongside the women, the men on the rise are Christian Bart, Jonas Cantrell, Dane Herrick, Marko Khotynetskyi, Andrew Bernsdorf, Harry Nicholson, James Hart, Christopher Palvadore, and Sam McKenzie.

Both the Golden Grizzlies men's and women's swimming and diving teams received the top number of first-place votes in the #HLSD poll for the 2022-2023 season receiving 36 votes each.

SCOUTING REPORT

This will be among the first CO-ED meets for Michigan this season alongside their SMU Classic this weekend. The Wolverines were 6-1 for the past 2021-2022 season. The men's team came in third place at the Big Ten Championships last season in West Lafayette, Indiana. Additionally, the women's team came in second at the Big Ten Championships in Madison, Wisconsin.
