Johnson Joins Track & Field Staff

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Track and Field and Cross Country coaches Paul Rice and Katrina Brumfield have announced the addition of Lamont Johnson to the coaching staff starting this upcoming season.

"I would like to thank Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Paul Rice, and Head Coach, Katrina Brumfield, for this amazing opportunity to return back to the Division I level. I look forward to working with this amazing group of student-athletes, as well as this great coaching staff," said Johnson, "I would like to thank Natasha Wilson, assistant coaches Kenny Anderson, Patrick Heckroth, Dustin Stewart, Katina Davis, the outstanding student-athletes and Johnson C. Smith University for the great opportunity to be the head coach of that program for the past four years." 

Johnson comes to Michigan after a Head Coaching stint at Johnson C. Smith University since 2018 in Charlotte, North Carolina where the Golden Bulls hosted the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championships in which Johnson was a part of the bid committee following his time with University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Virginia State as an Assistant Coach.

In his long list of coaching achievements, Johnson boasts the oversight of five NCAA collegiate record holders, 67 NCAA qualifiers, 22 All-Americans, nine National Champions, and two National Championship teams to name a few. 

Johnson graduated from Iowa State in 2003 with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Sociology.
