Albrecht Wins 2022 #HLXC Men's Individual Title at Conference Championships

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Yami Albrecht of Oakland University Cross Country won the individual title of the 2022 #HLXC Championships at the Oakland Cross Country Field on Saturday morning as both teams wrapped up competition against the conference.

With a morning chill and a stifling fog over the course, the women's 6,000 kilometer race was first where Grace Nolan reached All-League First Team honors with a seventh-place finish in 22:15.7. Rachel Kempf grabbed a top 15 performance after finishing the race 15th out of 104 finishers in 22:37.1 while Seanna Schmidt was just behind in 18th with a 22:42.8.

The final two scorers for Oakland were Maryam Sheena and Brooke Hinkelman who crossed the line in 22nd and 24th, respectively, with times of 22:54.2 and 23:03.5.

With the chilling fog lifted and the sun now beating down in Rochester, the gun fired off with the men's 8,000 kilometer race. A large pack of harriers would widdle down to four with Albrecht in pursuit, kicking out wide in the final stretch to take the victory for the first time in his career in 24:44.1 from 100 runners.

Adam Jesse was just behind in 17th with a mark of 25:38.1 while freshman Wesley Hollowell jumped more than 20 spots from his first split position to finish 34th, clocking in 26:09.1. Rounding out scorers for Oakland were Adam Hill and Trey Plichta in 34th and 36th with 26:09.1 26:17.1.

Oakland finished runner-up to Milwaukee in the team scoring on the women's side as the Golden Grizzlies scored 86 points. OU finished just ahead of Youngstown State in third with 87 points, respectively.

Youngstown then took the victory on the men's side above reining champions, IUPUI with 29 points to 54. Purdue Fort Wayne just edged Oakland for third 111-115.
