SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Oakland Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed at the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, with the women's team placing eighth with 302 points and the men's team finishing 13th with 303 points.
On the women's side, sophomore Eliza Bush led the Golden Grizzlies with a 15th-place finish in the 5k, crossing in 17:37.07 for her second-best finish in the event in her career. Courtney Bovair followed in 62nd at 18:25.40, while Makenna Scott placed 67th in 18:30.26. Amy Rowan finished 80th in 18:36.26, and Anne May rounded out Oakland's scoring five in 89th at 18:39.71.
Freshman Brody Karg paced the Oakland men, finishing 27th in 24:39.8. Fellow freshman Gabe Litzner followed in 59th at 25:06.9, with junior Ethan Sandula placing 61st in 25:07.6. Freshman Max Houvener crossed 70th in 25:13.8, while junior Collin Farmer completed Oakland's scoring five in 86th at 25:26.2.
Seeing some familiar Horizon League action at the big meet, the women topped Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Cleveland State in the field, as the men placed higher than Milwaukee and Purdue Fort Wayne.
Oakland returns to action Oct. 16 at the Bradley Pink Classic before the Horizon League Championships on Oct. 31.
