Women's Soccer Set for Senior Night Matchup at Home

ROCHESTER, Mich - The Oakland Women's Soccer team will host Detroit Mercy for Senior night on Wednesday, October 26th at 7:00 pm on the Oakland Soccer Field. 

The Golden Grizzlies are currently sitting at a 7-3-7 and 4-2-3 in the Horizon League with one more opportunity of regular season play with Wednesday's matchup. Women's soccer is most recently coming off of a loss to Milwaukee. 

The ten honorary seniors being recognized for the 2022 season are Maggie Rimer, Sydney Grodsinsky, Jessica Shears, Macey Wierenga, Noemi Stadelmann, Alexa Sabbagh, Sami Lopez, Sophie Wilsey, Carmela Barro, and Kendra Zak. 

Goal leaders for the Golden Grizzlies are Alexa Sabbagh with four goals and one assist, Sophie Wilsey with three goals, and Carmela Barro with two goals and one assist. Notably, assist leaders for Oakland are Sami Lopez with five assists and one goal, and both Macey Wierenga and Sydney Grodsinsky with three assists. Additionally, there are seven other Golden Grizzly athletes on the team who record one goal each for the season. 

Noëmi Stadelmann is the senior goalkeeper for the Golden Grizzlies recording 33 saves and an 86.3% save percentage for the season. Alongside her is goalkeeper Haley Lindow with eight saves and an 80% save percentage. 

Oakland is currently ranked 3rd in the Horizon League Women's Soccer standings for the 2022 season. 

SCOUTING REPORT

The Titans are 6-9-1 for the season and 4-5 in the Horizon League. They are most recently coming off of a loss from Purdue Fort Wayne.

Goal leaders for the season are Julie Ann Piechocki with three goals and one assist, and Sophia Blankenship with three goals. Notably, assist leaders for the Titans consist of Abbey Lodato with five assists along with Taylor Stanley with five assists as well. 

Goalkeeping consists of Jazmine Scott with 67 saves for the season with a 71.3% save percentage, additionally Marisa Silver assists the Titans in the net. 

 


NATIONAL RECOGNITION
The United Soccer Coaches revealed its week one North Region Poll on August 23 with Oakland the No. 6 team in the region just behind Michigan and above Indiana, respectively.

FAVERO CONTRACT EXTENDED
Head Coach Juan Pablo Favero's contract has been extended through the 2026 season, Oakland University announced in August.

PRESEASON NO. 1
Oakland was selected as the preseason favorite in the 2022 #HLWSOC Preseason Poll with 115 votes and five first-place votes. 

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH
Seven newcomers enter the 2022 Golden Grizzlies roster on both sides of the field including transfer Allie Tefend and freshman Anuhea Aluli from Hawaii. 

LOPEZ PLAYER TO WATCH
Midfielder Sami Lopez is one of 38 women named to an exclusive list that is the NCAA Division I Players to Watch release which included four returning All-Americans from a year ago. Lopez is the only Horizon League student-athlete mentioned. 

FOUR ON 2021 #HLWSOC ALL-LEAGUE TEAM
Lopez and Zak find themselves on the All-League First Team roster with Dhlamini on the Second Team List in 2021. Rounding out the honors was Sharon Sampson on the All-Freshman Team squad. 

NATIONAL TEAM - GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Dhlamini and Sharon Sampson are two Golden Grizzlies playing on the national stage as Dhlamini's South African National Team won the 2022 WAFCON final to qualify for the Women's World Cup in 2023. Sampson made a roster spot on the U-20 "Black Princess of Ghana" National team, playing in the 2022 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica.
