Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Jordyn Berg

Oakland Soccer Falls to Milwaukee

ROCHESTER, Mich - The Oakland Women's Soccer team finished their matchup with the Panthers in a 0-1 loss this afternoon bringing their season record to 7-3-7.

Oakland's Carmela Barro fired the first shot of the afternoon just above the goalpost and followed that up with another kick minutes later, however it followed the same path right outside the net. Macey Wierenga followed in those same footsteps as she soon attacked the net with a powerful drive nearing the right side and tested the goalkeeper again within the next ten minutes with an effort to get the Golden Grizzlies on the board. Additionally, Sami Lopez and Sharon Sampson would both get a look at the net, however, the ball didn't make it past the goalposts leaving Oakland to a scoreless first half. Notably, the Golden Grizzlies defended the Panthers in keeping them from getting any taste of the net leaving them also scoreless at the half.

The Golden Grizzlies started the second half with continued energy, however, the Panthers came in with an early second-half goal. Just minutes later, Alexa Sabbagh fired one right at the net but it couldn't make it past the hands of the Panther goalkeeper. Oakland continued to level up their intensity with a shot from Shannon Brown nearly a minute later that reached just over the top of the goalpost. Similarly, Lopez connected with the ball zoned in at the right side although it landed just outside the net. Wierenga and Kendra Zak then dialed in the ball as they attacked the goalkeeper with their two shots to keep the Panthers on their toes. Then to cap off the second half we saw both Sabbagh and Brown make incredible efforts to get the ball in the net, but they didn't make it past the posts to get on the board.

Noëmi Stadelmann guarded the net for the Golden Grizzlies recording an impressive eight saves against the Panthers. Notably, the Oakland defense made incredible movement on the field to guard the ball and kept the Panthers to only one goal for the afternoon.
