Oakland Breaks Even with Miami (Ohio)

ROCHESTER, Mich - The Oakland Men's and Women's Swim and Dive team competed against Miami (Ohio) coming out of the meet with a loss for the women's team (92-208) but a win for the men's (160-140).

There were first place finishes from a variety of Golden Grizzly swimmers over the course of the meet. For the men, there was Sam McKenzie in the 200 yard freestyle finishing 1:41.52. James Hart took first in the 200 yard butterfly with 1:53.62. Harry Nicholson dominates the 200 yard backstroke at 1:50.32. Christopher Palvadre took first in the 200 yard breaststroke with 2:04.13. And Jonas Cantrell secured the 500 yard freestyle with 4:37.58.

Additionally, Marko Khotynetskyi finished first in both the 100 yard backstroke with 49.18 finals time and the 200 yard IM with 1:52.40. And notably, Christian Bart took first for both the 100 yard breaststroke in 55.90 and the 100 yard freestyle at 45.36.

The women's team recorded notable finishes from swimmers from a variety of events as well. Susan LaGrand took first in both the 100 yard backstroke in 56.01 and 200 yard backstroke at 2:03.17. Similarly, Taylor Bailey came in first for both the 100 yard breaststroke with 1:04.86 and the 200 yard breaststroke with 2:19.73.

Additionally, Oakland secured the top finish for the men's 400 yard freestyle relay with a final time of 3:36.16 with swimmers Christian Bart, Harry Nicholson, Jonas Cantrell, and Samuel McKenzie.

Victoria Sanders, Ellie Chalifoux, and Alyssa Ruhf competed in the three meter women's diving event with scores of 256, 249, and 190, respectively.

Scott Scrivano, Luke Lathrup, and Nicholas Schmid also competed in the three meter diving event for the men with scores of 244.13, 202.13, and 195.

The Oakland Swim and Dive team will be bringing it back home to compete against the University of Michigan next Saturday, October 8, at noon.
