ROCHESTER, Mich. – Jamal Cain of men's basketball and C'Erra Maholmes of women's basketball have been named Oakland Student-Athletes of the Week presented by Prairie Farms.
Maholmes made the most of her opportunity in her first season start and impacted the game on both ends, helping Oakland defeat the Milwaukee Panthers by 13 on the road. Maholmes was active in the passing lanes, forcing turnovers and creating opportunities on the fast break. This defensive effort was typified by a steal in the backcourt, which made an easy breakaway layup for the graduate student. Maholmes finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and four steals, setting multiple career highs.
In OU's 2-0 week wins over Robert Morris and Youngstown State, Cain secured two straight double-doubles shooting 18-32 from the field with 22 and 23 points in each contest, respectively. Additionally, Cain tallied 14 rebounds against RMU and 11 versus Youngstown State. In both contests, the Pontiac native shot 4-5 from range against the Penguins while finishing 4-6 from the free-throw line. Cain's double-double total has now added up to seven for the season, which puts him in a tie for 11th nationally.Â
