OAKLAND HANDLES UM-DEARBORN, PRICE 100% FROM THE FIELD

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Men's Basketball dominated University of Michigan-Dearborn in non-conference action Monday night 104-61 inside the arena where many Golden Grizzlies set career highs.

A recurring theme, Osei Price opened up the game with a three-pointer followed by a Trey Townsend layup to put Oakland (15-5, 8-1 HL) up 5-0 over the Wolverines (3-19, 1-11 WHAC) early on. Lampman then showed no mercy for the 3-18 club with a steal and a dunk as the Golden Grizzlies found themselves up 12-2 as the under 16 timeout loomed.

With Oakland up 15-6, the scoring stalled for a few moments as both teams went for back-and-forth on possessions. Emmanuel Newsome's layup in the paint from Price put Oakland up 19-14 after the under 12 media timeout.

Lampman found himself as the scoring leader early on with five points to his credit while the team was shooting 46.7% (7-15) from the field while giving up four turnovers along with UMD.

Price started the game 5-5 from range as the Upper Marlboro, Maryland native got off to his best start in an Oakland jersey with 17 points, a career high last set against Robert Morris, to go with three steals to tie a career best.

The Golden Grizzlies were up by 20 as halftime approached. Will Shepherd led the team with five rebounds and four assists with a block as Oakland went to the locker room with a comfortable 24-point lead.

Oakland was shooting approximately 50% (17-34) from the field and 41.2% (7-17) from deep, hitting all nine of their attempts at the free throw line. The Wolverines turned the ball over 11 times with OU scoring 19 points off those mishaps.

Townsend scored a quick six points to start the second half sandwiching a Blake Lampman triple. Oakland was up 64-31 early in the frame as Micah Parrish continued to cause havoc under the rim, reaching the free throw line and securing in-the-paint layups.

Price continued to pile on the points as a Ty Wyman takeaway led to a steal and score with the freshman taking off for an authoritative dunk with just under fifteen minutes to go.

Will Shepherd broke his career record in scoring at the 9:11 mark as the freshman from Dallas knocked down a jumper to reach his 13th points followed by a layup that sent him to the 15-point mark and counting.

At the end of the night, Price had a career high 27 points and went 100% (7-7) from the field to accompany two rebounds and three steals. Price shot 7-7 in the field, 3-3 from three-point range, and 8-8 from the line to shoot 100% in three categories. Shepherd recorded 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Lampman came away with five steals and four assists to tie Shepherd and Parrish.

The team finished 48.5% (33-68) from the field and 40.6% (13-32) from range. Oakland made all but two free throws down the stretch to complete a 92.6% (25-27) free throw shooting percentage. UM-Dearborn had 21 turnovers to OU's 10 as the Golden Grizzlies scored 32 points off those turnovers from the Wolverines. UMD out-rebound Oakland slightly 39-37.

Horizon League play returns to the O'rena on Thursday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. where the Golden Grizzlies welcome Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) in Rochester.
