OAKLAND COMPETES AT SVSU AND IU

ROCHESTER, Mich. -
 Oakland split the team Friday with student-athletes competing at the SVSU Doug Hanson Open and the IU Gladstein Invitational. 

The team at SVSU had a solid day as Maddie Brown won the 800 with a time of 2:23.09. Mehgan Earles ran her first 400 of the season, finishing third with a time of 1:02.29. Erin Hegarty took second in the mile (5:15.33), followed by Maryam Sheena in third (5:18.05) and Grace Nolan in fifth (5:19.90). The ladies swept the 3000 as Barret Schettler took first (10:50.80), Olivia Updike took second (10:52.48), and Seanna Schmidt finished third (11:13.0). 

Today, Alexis Graham earned two personal bests, finishing fourth in the 60 hurdles (8.12) and eighth in the 200 (27.16). Hannah Hall finished second in the high jump (5 ft., 1.25 in.), and Alexa Messina took third in the pole vault (11 ft., 3.5 in.).

The men at SVSU also saw some top finishes as Yami Albrecht won the mile (4:12.34) and the 3000 (8:33.85). Christian Collis finished second in the 3000 with a personal best of 8:46.87, followed by a personal best from Adam Jesse (8:48.84). Shawn Slater placed third in the 800 (2:23.09) and 12th in the mile (4:24.65). 

Day one of the Gladstein Invitational showed promising results for the student-athletes as well. Rose Philogene earned a personal best and a first-place finish in the 60 hurdles (8.53), ranking her directly behind the school record holder. Freshman Ellie Voetberg won the 5000 in 17:58.05, while Connor Goetz won for the men (14:36.32). Gabriel Singh won the 400 with a personal best of 49.54. 

In his first 400 of the season, Jimmie Williams finished second in 48.47.  Brooke Hinkelmann finished fourth in the 3000 with a new personal best of 10:17.68, while Azsah Bradley finished fourth in the 60m dash (7.60).

Day two of the Gladstein Invitational begins tomorrow at 10:45 a.m.
