
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Oakland University volleyball program collected its second-straight sweep against Horizon League competition, as the Golden Grizzlies took down Robert Morris (25-19, 25-13, 25-23) on Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Events Center.
As a team, Oakland (8-5, 2-0 HL) hit .343 with 49 kills and 12 errors. The Golden Grizzlies hit above .500 in their first two sets of the conference match. The trio of graduate senior

Patti Cesarini, and senior
Jessica Riedl totaled double-digit kills with a hitting percentage above .300. Junior setter
AnnaBelle Tomei helped out the attack with a match-leading 22 assists and added seven digs.
Defensively, fifth-year senior
Lindsay Wightman tallied a match-best 17 digs to go along with two aces. Senior
Kerra Cornist controlled the net with five blocks, while Walling was close behind with four of her own. Senior
Brittany Welch and Riedl finished with three blocks in the victory.
Oakland opened a 6-2 lead in its opening set at RMU (7-7, 0-2 HL). Later on, the Colonials evened the period at 17-all following a 5-1 run. OU took six of the next seven points to get back in front, 23-18. A kill by Cesarini clinched a 25-19 decision for OU. The Golden Grizzlies produced an impressive .517 hitting percentage in the period with 18 kills compared to a mere three errors. Walling led the charge with six kills on nine swings (.667).
OU burst out to an 8-3 edge in the following set, punctuated by a combined block from Riedl and Welch. Oakland furthered its lead with five consecutive points later in the period, making it a 21-9 advantage. The finishing result was a 25-13 set win for the Golden Grizzlies. Oakland continued to dominate offensively, as the visitors hit .500 with 17 kills and one error. Meanwhile, RMU was limited to a .032 striking percentage. Cesarini and Riedl accounted for 12 kills, while Wightman had both of her aces in the set.
The Colonials did not go down without a fight, as the third set featured four ties and two lead changes. Oakland led 15-13, but RMU scored the following six points to earn a 19-15 advantage. Facing a 21-16 deficit, OU took eight straight points to make it 24-21 in favor of the Golden Grizzlies. An attack error by Robert Morris clinched a match-deciding 25-23 win for OU.
The Golden Grizzlies will look to remain unbeaten in conference play on Tuesday, September 28, against Purdue Fort Wayne. First serve at the Athletics Center O'rena is set for 6 p.m.
