ROCHESTER, Mich. –Alexa Sabbagh netted three goals on the afternoon to guide the Oakland women's soccer team to a 6-0 win over Green Bay Sunday from the Oakland Soccer Field.
Oakland's six goals is the most scored in a game since 2013 when the Golden Grizzlies defeated Youngstown State, 6-2.
It was all Golden Grizzlies from start to finish Sunday, as Oakland scored five of its six goals in the first 45 minutes of play.
Sabbagh scored her first goal of the afternoon just seven minutes with an assist from
Jayna Fraser.
Fraser added a goal of her own at the 15:05 mark of the first half to give Oakland an early 2-0 lead.
Senior
Sami Lopez recorded her third goal of the season off helpers from Sabbagh and Fraser.
Oakland wasn't done yet as
Vera Asare scored her first goal of her Golden Grizzlies' career at 23:04, with
Jessica Shears feeding her the perfect ball.
The Golden Grizzlies added one more in the first half 30 minutes in after Sabbagh took advantage of getting fouled in the box, leading to a penalty kick and a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.
Sabbagh recorded her third goal of the afternoon early in the second half, with the assist coming from
Ashley Postma.
Sabbagh becomes the first Golden Grizzly to score three goals in a game since
Sydnye Gagner in 2016, when she netteed four in a 5-0 win against Chicago State.
Defensively, Oakland allowed just one shot on goal and nine shots faced all game for Green Bay.
Sunday's shutout marks Oakland's first of the season.
Noëmi Stadelmann and
Myia Danek played the first and second half respectively.
The Golden Grizzlies are back in action Thursday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. against UIC at the Oakland Soccer Field. Thursday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+/3.
