ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Two second half goals by
Ashley Postma and
Sami Lopez gave the Oakland women's soccer team an edge over Kent State but it wasn't enough as a late goal lifted the Golden Flashes by the Golden Grizzlies Sunday afternoon from the Oakland Soccer Field.
Kent State (4-2-0) was on the board first after scoring at the 17:01 mark of the first half. The two teams went into halftime with KSU leading 1-0.
The Golden Grizzlies came out strong in the second half with Postma's goal coming just a little more than two minutes into the second half off a beautiful helper from Lopez. The goal marks the first for Postma on the year.
Less than 10 minutes later, Lopez capitalized on a penalty kick after getting fouled in the box. Lopez found the top right of the net to put Oakland up 2-1.
The Golden Flashes didn't find themselves down for long, after scoring a header off a set piece to tie the game at 2-2 at the 58:37 mark.
With just 10 minutes left in regulation, KSU scored to go up 3-2 and take the game.
Oakland's keeper
Noëmi Stadelmann recorded seven saves on the afternoon.
The Golden Grizzlies (1-7) open up Horizon League play Thursday at Kent State beginning at 5:30 p.m.
