
ROCHESTER, Mich.- Ville Ahola scored his first goal of the season followed by
Mikey Ketteman's second tally of the year to lead Oakland to its first win of the season with a 2-0 mark over visiting Purdue Fort Wayne to open Horizon League play on Saturday afternoon.
Alessio Carbone picked up his second shutout of the season and first career win making two saves on 11 shots faced while
Noah Jensen added his first assist on Ahola's game-winner.
In the 31st minute, Jensen took for a free-kick outside the 18-yard line that was deflected off the wall and back to him. He in turn passed the ball over to Ahola who connected on a shot that got past Purdue Fort Wayne Keeper Erik Josson giving Oakland a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Ketteman took the ball off a failed clear attempt by a Mastodon defender and ripped a shot past Josson for an insurance goal giving the Golden Grizzlies a 2-0 advantage in the 83rd minute to secure the league win.
Oakland hosts defending A-10 champion Dayton on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
