Macey Wierenga delivered on a game-winning penalty kick in the 71st
minute to help guide the Oakland women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Stetson Sunday afternoon, giving Oakland its first win of the season.
Sophomore
Jackie Reilly netted her first goal of the season and the first of the game at the 41st
minute to give Oakland a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Reilly connected after a beautifully threaded pass from Wierenga.
Oakland dominated offensively recording eight shots on goal compared to just one coming from The Hatters.
Stetson (0-2) had a chance to tie things up with about six minutes remaining in the game after a shot hit the left post, followed by a rebounded shot going high. Oakland was able to hold off The Hatters to secure the 2-1 win.
The Golden Grizzlies (1-1) will return to the Oakland Soccer Field for the 2021 home opener, welcoming DePaul to Rochester Thursday at 7 p.m.
