ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland men's and women's golf has named Chris Handy as the team Graduate Assistant announced by Head Coaches Nick Pumford and Alyssa Guss. Handy is no stranger to the Oakland golf program and has been a crucial member of the team since joining in 2016.
As the Graduate Assistant, Handy's responsibilities include coaching players and handling daily operational needs.
After graduating from Oakland with a bachelor's degree in Finance, Handy is now working on his master's of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance.
Being an Oakland golf Alumni will allow Handy to bring a unique perspective to the team, "I competed the last five years for OU Golf. I have been in their shoes and feel like I have a great understanding of the game. I have some great knowledge of how to improve players' games, and I have worked with some of the best coaches in England," Handy said.
During his time at Oakland, Handy earned NCAA Division 1 All-American honors three times as well as first-team honors. The graduate student holds the school record for the lowest score recorded in a single round (64). He also won the Hollie L. Lepley Award from the athletics department twice during his career. Outside of Oakland golf, Handy has played for his national team, England Golf, seven times.
"I am looking forward to just helping players out with their games and seeing results because of my hard work. I take real enjoyment from seeing my players perform well."
