ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Colin Sikkenga finishes his run in the 110th Michigan Amateur Championship as a semifinalist.
Sikkenga tied for eighth after two days of stroke play, advancing to bracket play as the eighth seed of 64. The senior defeated Tom Senkowski 4&2 in the first round before knocking out Oakland Golf Alum, Jeff Champine in 19 holes to advance to the top 16. Sikkenga then beat Coalter Smith and Michael Anderson before falling 3&1 to the eventual runner-up, Patrick Sullivan.
Sikkenga will capitalize on his success in the tournament to propel him into his final year at Oakland.
"Being able to compete at the level I did this week definitely gives me a lot of confidence heading into my senior year at OU because I was able to hit some big shots and make putts when I had to in order to keep moving on. And being able to prove that at the Michigan Amateur shows to me that I can carry that level of play with me anywhere I go," Sikkenga said.
