
INDIANAPOLIS — The Oakland softball trio of
Madison Jones,
Sydney Campbell, and
Jessie Munson was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team, as the conference office announced the 14-member list voted on by the League's faculty athletics representatives.Â
To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution (excluding summer school), having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
The Golden Grizzlies were the only program in the conference with three All-Academic Team selections. IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, and Robert Morris were close behind with two honorees apiece. As a team, Oakland had a 3.54 GPA in the 2021 winter semester. Twenty-three student-athletes on the OU softball program closed the semester with a GPA above 3.00.Â
Jones, a Health Sciences major, earned a 4.00 GPA en route to All-Academic Team honors for the second time in her career at OU. On the season, she led the team in batting average (.411), doubles (13, T-1st), triples (6), home runs (7, T-1st), runs (52), stolen bases (15), on-base percentage (.475), slugging percentage (.738), and OPS (1.213). The Romeo, Mich. native broke school records in career home runs (22) and runs scored over the course of the season. The redshirt junior was also named to the All-League First Team and Horizon League All-Tournament Team. Nationally, Jones ranks sixth in runs per game (1.24) and eighth in triples.Â
Campbell was named to the All-Academic Team for the first time in her Golden Grizzly career after obtaining a 4.00 GPA in the winter semester. The Elementary Education major ranked first on the team in virtually every pitching category, including wins (17), ERA (1.97), strikeouts (91), complete games (20), and shutouts (4). Campbell earned HL Pitcher of the Week once (4/6) and All-League First Team and All-Tournament Team honors during the 2021 campaign. In the national ranks, the sophomore is seventh in walks allowed per seven innings (0.76) and 38th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.06).Â
Munson tabbed All-Academic Team honors for the second time in the last three years, as she earned a 4.00 GPA as a nursing major. The senior played in all 42 games and led OU in sacrifice flies (3) while ranking second on the team in stolen bases (11) and sacrifice hits (3). Nationally, the Regina, Mich. native ranks 79th in sacrifice flies.Â
