ROCHESTER, Mich. — Junior point guard Jalen Moore became the seventh player in school history to be named an NCAA Statistical Champion, as he topped the nation in assists per game. The full list of NCAA Division I Statistical Champions can be found here. 

"Without my coaching staff and teammates, this wouldn't be possible," Moore said. "I'm happy to be in the best position possible with a great group of teammates!"

Moore wrapped up the 2020-21 season with 8.4 assists per game, which edged Colbey Ross (Pepperdine) and Cam Mack (Prairie View), who finished in a tie for second place at 7.7 assists per game. To add, the newcomer's assist average was the fourth-highest mark in school history. 

Moore is the third Oakland player in the last 12 years to lead NCAA Division I in assists per game. Johnathon Jones (8.1 assists per game) earned the honor in 2009, followed by Kay Felder (school-record 9.3 assists per game) in 2016. 

The Cloverdale, Ind. native is the first Golden Grizzly to be honored as an NCAA Statistical Champion since 2018 when Kendrick Nunn led the nation with 4.47 three-point field goals per game. Moore also finished the season top-10 nationally in free throw makes (2nd / 170), free throw attempts (3rd / 219), triple-doubles (4th / 1), and minutes per game (5th / 37:50). 

On the season, Moore dished out double-digit assists in 12 games, including a season-high 15 assists in Oakland's regular-season finale at Milwaukee (2/20). He recorded 10 or more assists in five-straight games from January 9 to January 23. Moore's passing excellence transitioned into postseason play, as he averaged 8.3 assists en route to earning a spot on the Horizon League Championship All-Tournament Team.
