ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland volleyball team got off to a hot start, taking the first set of the night but it wasn't enough as the Golden Grizzlies fell to Purdue Fort Wayne, 3-1 Monday from the O'rena.
Jamie Walling lead the Golden Grizzlies with 13 kills on 27 attempts, recording a .407 hitting percentage, and three block assists on the night.
Brittany Welch also notched double-digit kills with 12, while also recording 12 digs.

Lindsay Wightman continued to pace the Golden Grizzlies from the back row, recording her 24th-straight match with 10 or more digs, adding a team-best 19.
AnnaBelle Tomei rounded out Oakland's double-digit dig performers on the night, adding 11 on the night.
Oakland (5-6) dominated the first set against PFW (9-4), racking up 14 kills and boasting a 464 hitting percentage, compared to the Mastodons .061%. The Golden Grizzlies put together three, four-point runs taking the first set, 25-13.
PFW answered in the next three sets, out-hitting the Golden Grizzlies.
The Golden Grizzlies continued the momentum into set two, taking an early 3-0 lead, but after a 4-0 Mastodons run the momentum swung to the 'Dons. PFW sealed the set with a 5-1 stretch to take the win.
Oakland jumped out to a 10-6 lead to start the third set forcing a Mastodons timeout which ultimately led to a PFW 8-2 run to take a 17-15 lead. Oakland responded with a 4-1 stretch but it wasn't enough as the 'Dons rattled off a 7-2 push of their to take the set.
The Golden Grizzlies trailed in the fourth set 16-12 after a 11-3 PFW run. Oakland battled back and forth pulling within two late, 23-21 but a PFW kill and forced error closed out the match.
Oakland looks to snap its three-game skid tomorrow as the Golden Grizzlies and the 'Dons meet again at 5 p.m. at the O'rena.
