
BLOOMFIELD, Mich. - Joëlle Tabernal took the first set but eventually fell in a battle at the No. 4 singles position to Eliska Mararikova, 6-2, 4-6, 1-6 as Oakland lost their first conference match of the season to Horizon League leader Youngstown State on Saturday at the Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness.
Mia Melnizki also pushed Lucia Zagar before falling in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5 at the No 3 spot. After winning the doubles point, YSU went on the win the remaining singles matches in straight sets to remain unbeaten in league play.
Due to a shortened roster this season, Oakland has to start each competition with a forfeit at the No. 3 doubles position and an additional forfeit at the No. 6 singles position.
Both teams will play a second dual match on Sunday, Mar. 28 at 4:30 p.m.
