
ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women's tennis team won their first match of the season with a 5-2 win over IUPUI to open Horizon League play on Saturday. After winning the doubles point,
Yasmin Glazbrook,
Nirva Patel,
Mia Melnizki and
Emma Hultqvist each won at the No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 singles positions respectively.
Despite defaulting at the No. 3 doubles position, Patel and Galzbrook defeated Krystal Grubb and Gabrielle Ochalik, 6-3, at the No. 1 spot followed by Joëlle Tabernal and Hultqvist who took out Sarah Lounsbury and Christina Lounsbury at the No. 2 position to claim the double point.
In singles play, Oakland won 4-of-6 matches as Glazbrook won by injury default over Grubb at No. 1 while Patel defeated Ochalik in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 2 position. Melnizki outlasted Lounsbury in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 3 followed by Hultqvist who also won in straight sets over Hayward, 6-2, 6-4. Tabernal battled before falling in three hard-fought sets to Samantha Hayward, 3-6, 6-4, 4-10, at the No. 4 spot.
Both teams will play the second dual match on Sunday, Mar. 21 at 4:30 p.m.
