
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Senior
Autumn Kissman scored 10 on 4-of-8 shooting with five rebounds while matching a career and season-best 2-for-3 from 3-point range as No. 4 seed Oakland saw its season come to an end with a 86-64 setback to No. 5 seed IUPUI on Tuesday in #HLWBB Championship quarterfinal action at O'Rena.
Kahlaijah Dean was the only other player to reach double figures with 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists while going 6-for-7 from the free throw line.
Senior
Chloe Guingrich added seven points, six rebounds, and team-high three steals while
Brianna Breedy chipped in with eight points, four assists, and two steals.
Breanne Beatty also had eight points with three boards and two steals with
Alona Blackwell added seven points.
Breanna Perry pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Oakland (12-12), grabbing 11 boards and turning them into six second-chance points.
Oakland's defense was stingy, forcing 18 IUPUI (14-4) turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor.
The Golden Grizzlies struggled out of the gate early while IUPUI used a 15-2 run to lead by 12 points, 27-15, at the end of the first quarter.
IUPUI kept adding to that lead, building a 36-22 advantage before Oakland went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from senior
Jalisha Terry, to narrow its deficit to eight points at 36-28. IUPUI responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Golden Grizzlies trailing by 11 points, 43-32, heading into halftime.
The Jags continued to increase their lead after halftime, building a 52-38 advantage before Oakland went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Terry, to trim its deficit to seven points, 52-45 with 5:53 to go in the third. However, that would be as close as the Golden Grizzlies would get as IUPUI stretched its lead to 62-51 heading into the fourth. Oakland knocked down four 3-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 19 total points.
IUPUI opened the fourth quarter with a 13-5 run to move ahead 75-56 and added an 8-0 run to move ahead 83-58 outscoring the Golden Grizzlies 24-13 overall in the frame en route to the win. Oakland took advantage of four IUPUI turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of those takeaways.
