ROCHESTER, Mich. – Alexa Sabbagh netted the game-winner in thrilling fashion with under a minute left to play as the Oakland women's soccer team defeated Green Bay, 2-1 Wednesday from the Grizz Dome.
With under two minutes remaining in the first half, Green Bay's goalie committed an illegal touch after a back pass from a Phoenix defender leading to an Oakland free kick.
Sami Lopez added her sixth assist on the year after dishing it off to
Hollie Clement who launched her first goal of the year from the top of the box to the lower right corner of the net to give the Golden Grizzlies a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the 57th
minute Green Bay took an advantage of a penalty kick, tying things up at 1-1.
After getting fouled in the box, Oakland had an opportunity on a penalty shot but wasn't able to convert, even after two rebound shot attempts.
In the 90th
minute Alex Sabbagh recorded her third goal of the year, with helpers coming from
Izzy Karkaba and
Marin Kulenguski giving Oakland its third-straight win.
Oakland owned a 19-6 advantage in total shots and placed 12 on-goal compared to GB's three.
Oakland (4-2-1) will travel to Wright State to take on the Raiders Wednesday, March 24 at 5 p.m.
