VALPARAISO, Ind. -  Joëlle Tabernal defeated Isabella Schoolcraft in the sets 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (14-12) at No. 4 singles as Oakland completed non-conference play with a hard-fought 6-1 set back at Valparaiso on Saturday.

After dropping the doubles point, Yasmin Glazbrook battled Claire Czerwonka before falling in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) at the No. 1 singles position while Mia Melnizki also battled before falling in three sets to Mia Bertino, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) at the No. 3 spot.

Due to a shortened roster this season, Oakland has to start each competition with a forfeit at the No. 3 doubles position and an additional forfeit at the No. 6 singles position.

Oakland opens Horizon League play against IUPUI on Saturday, Mar. 20 at 4:30 p.m.
