OAKLAND FALLS TO HOT SHOOTING VIKINGS, 80-72

Jalen Moore

Rochester, Mich.
— Jalen Moore and Micah Parrish both recorded double-doubles, but the Oakland men's basketball team fell to the hot shooting Cleveland State Vikings, 80-72, Friday night inside the Athletics Center O'rena.

The Golden Grizzlies (8-13, 8-7 HL) had four players score in double-figures, led by Moore, who notched a double-double with 20 points and 11 assists. Parrish totaled 13 points along with a career-high 12 rebounds for his first double-double as a Golden Grizzly. Zion Young added 14 points while Daniel Oladapo chipped in as well with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Oakland crashed the offensive glass, pulling down 16 boards that resulted in 13 second-chance points. Parrish led the group with a game-high five offensive boards.

OU's defense caused its share of mistakes in the Horizon League matchup forcing 15 CSU (13-5, 13-2 HL) turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Parrish's three steals led the way individually for the Golden Grizzlies.

CSU held the advantage in points in the paint (38), bench points (28), points off turnovers (20), and fast-break points (23).

The Vikings built a 22-13 lead with 11:54 minutes remaining in the first half, as the visiting squad started the game a blistering 9-of-10 from the field including 4-of-5 from outside the arc. Oakland inched back within three points, 26-23, at the 8:14-mark, but CSU ended the period in front, 46-33.

Oakland narrowed its deficit in the second half by as much as five but could not get over the hump, losing 80-72. Oakland made the most of 10 offensive rebounds tacking on seven second-chance points out of 39 total in the period.

As a team, the Golden Grizzlies shot 39 percent (25-of-63) from the floor for their lowest shooting percentage in the last 10 games. Meanwhile, CSU converted on 55% (30-of-54) of its field goal attempts, which included 63% (17-of-27) in the first half.
