OAKLAND DROPS SEASON FINALE TO MILWAUKEE, 89-87, IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

MILWAUKEE, Wisc.
— The Oakland men's basketball team closed its regular season with an 89-87 loss in double overtime to the Milwaukee Panthers on the road Saturday evening inside the Klotsche Center. Milwaukee's Te'Jon Lucas hit a jump shot with four seconds remaining in the second overtime to break an 87-all tie and seal the victory. 

The Golden Grizzlies (10-17, 10-10 HL) had four players score in double figures, led by Daniel Oladapo, who recorded his second-straight double-double with 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting and 12 rebounds. Micah Parrish tacked on his second-career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Trey Townsend chipped in with 16 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Jalen Moore finished three rebounds shy of a triple-double, as he tallied 14 points, a career-high 15 assists, and seven boards.

Oakland utilized ball movement in Horizon League matchup, piling up 21 assists on 31 made field goals. On the defensive end, the Golden Grizzlies blocked a season-high six shots. The trio of Oladapo, Townsend, and Parrish each had two rejections. 

After playing to a 4-4 tie, Oakland went on an 8-0 run with 13:24 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Blake Lampman, to take a 12-4 lead. The Golden Grizzlies maintained their lead for the entirety of the period to enter halftime with a 33-25 advantage. Oakland did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 33 points close to the basket.

The OU defense held Milwaukee (8-11, 7-10 HL) to a 22.9% (8-of-35) shooting clip in the first period, but the Panthers outrebounded Oakland 8-1 on the offensive end and scored 10 points off turnovers to stay within closing distance.

MKE opened the second half on a 25-10 run to take a 50-45 lead with 12:12 remaining the half. The Golden Grizzlies shrunk their deficit to 56-55 at the 8:55 mark following a layup by Oladapo. The OU rally continued as they outscored Milwaukee 19-18 the rest of the way to tie it at 74-74 and send the game to overtime. 

Parrish's free throws sent the contest to an extra period with just one second left. Oakland made the most of nine offensive rebounds to tack on 10 second chance points out of 41 total in the period.

The Panthers then snagged a 76-75 advantage with 3:44 left in the first overtime before Oakland responded by going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Oladapo's layup, to seize an 80-76 lead with 1:51 to go in the period. MKE then fought back to extend the game to another overtime before eventually prevailing in the second extra frame to win 89-87.

In total, the season finale featured 15 lead changes and 10 ties. 

Other Notes
Oakland dropped to 1-4 in overtime games this season… MKE shot 62.5% (20-of-32) in the second period… The Golden Grizzlies committed a mere two turnovers in the second half… Oakland led the rebounding advantage 52-43... Lampman had a team-best +11 plus-minus in nine minutes of play… Lampman's six points were his most since Bradley (11/27)… Oladapo recorded his eighth double-double of the season… Oladapo recorded his fourth career 20-point double-double… Oladapo totaled nine points on 4-of-4 shooting in the overtime… Moore posted his ninth double-double of the season… Moore dished out a career-best 15 assists… Townsend totaled 15-plus points for the third time this season… Parrish scored in double figures for the eighth-straight game … Parrish led the team in offensive rebounds with seven… Parrish matched a career-high in blocks with two.
