OAKLAND DROPS OVERTIME BATTLE TO CLEVELAND STATE

OAK vs CSU

ROCHESTER, Mich. –
The Golden Grizzlies netted two second half goals but it wasn't enough as the Oakland women's soccer team fell to Cleveland State, 3-2 in overtime from the Grizz Dome Wednesday morning.

The Vikings (2-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a goal in the 23rd minute, as the two teams headed into halftime with a 1-0 CSU advantage.

The Golden Grizzlies (1-2) answered with a dominating second half, as Sami Lopez tied things up in the 66th minute with her first goal of the season off a perfect placed ball from Ashley Postma. Jackie Reilly also recorded a helper on the play.

Nearly four minutes later, freshman Izzy Karkaba netted her first career goal after a Sami Lopez cross and dish from Marin Kulenguski, to give Oakland the 2-1 advantage.

With just about nine minutes left in regulation, CSU recorded the equalizer to deadlock the game at 2-2.

In overtime, the Vikings took advantage of a corner kick, scoring in the 97th minute to pull of the 3-2 overtime comeback. It marks the third straight game between the Vikings and the Golden Grizzlies that has gone into overtime.

Oakland will travel to Northern Kentucky to take on the Norse Wednesday, Feb. 24 beginning at 1 p.m.
