HIGHLANDHEIGHTS, Ky. – Sophie Wilsey netted her first goal of the season as the Oakland women's soccer team ended Wednesday's matinee against Northern Kentucky in a 1-1 draw from the NKU Soccer Stadium.
Wilsey's goal came off a set piece from a corner kick as
Sami Lopez fed the ball to
Sydney Grodsinsky who placed it perfectly for Wilsey's header to give Oakland (1-2-1) an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play.
The assist from Lopez marks her third of the season, tied for the most in the Horizon League, and the first of the season for Grodsinsky.
Wilsey, a junior from Laingsburg, Mich. now becomes the fifth Golden Grizzly to record a goal this season, joining teammates Lopez,
Izzy Karkaba,
Jackie Reilly and
Macey Wierenga.
Oakland entered halftime with the 1-0 advantage, with both teams deadlocked at four shots a piece.
The Norse (1-1-1, 1-0-1 HL) added the equalizer at 63:45, but neither team was able to add another goal in regulation forcing double overtime.
Vera Asare had a nice look for the Golden Grizzlies in the second overtime, but was unable to convert as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Golden Grizzlies will travel to Detroit Mercy to take on the Titans Wednesday, March 3 at 1 p.m.
