ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Oakland's
Kahlaijah Dean of women's basketball and
Jalen Moore of men's basketball have been named Oakland Student-Athletes of the Month presented by United Wholesale Mortgage for the month of January.
Dean led the Golden Grizzlies in the month of January averaging 14.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game. The Bakersfield, Calif. native started 2021 by pouring in 28 points, including five triples, and dishing out seven assists and two steals against Green Bay. The junior recorded double figures in eight of 10 games in January, adding a double-double against Purdue Fort Wayne scoring 14 points and pulling down 12 boards.
In the 10 games played in January, Moore averaged 21.6 points, 9.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. The junior tallied five double-doubles in 10 games and added a triple-double with 18 points, 14 assists, and 11 rebounds to lead Oakland past rival, Detroit Mercy. The Cloverdale, Ind. native was named Nike® Horizon League Player of the Week (Jan. 18) after a pair of double-doubles leading the Golden Grizzlies in a weekend sweep over Youngstown State.
