ROCHESTER, Mich. –
Oakland couldn't overcome the perennial contender IUPUI Jaguars' big first quarter, losing 74-49 in a wire-to-wire victory for IUPUI. The loss moved the Golden Grizzlies to 3-5 overall, 2-2 in conference.

Olivia Sims had another efficient night, shooting 3-5 overall, 2-2 on threes and getting to the rim to force contact. She had 11 points for her fourth game with 10 points or more. Kayla Luchenbach scored in double figures for the third time this season, putting up 14 points on 5-10 shooting and hitting 4-6 free throws.

It was the fourth game in a row Sims hit multiple threes, and her 2-2 performance improved her season percentage to 56% on 3.4 3-point attempts per game, making her one of the conference's most dangerous long-range threats.

IUPUI's rebounding advantage was palpable, they outrebounded Oakland 45-27 and pulled down 14 offensive rebounds. The Jaguar offense was rolling, racking up 17 assists on 27 made shots.

Reigning Player of the Year and Preseason Player of the Year pick Macee Williams had a double-double for IUPUI, 14 points and 12 rebounds. Williams was top five in both scoring and rebounding entering Saturday's game.

Oakland started off slow, missing their first seven shots before taking a timeout, down 5-0. The Jaguars shared the ball well, recording four first quarter assists. IUPUI continually found the open player in the first quarter, hitting 3-7 threes to take a 19-8 lead going into the second period.

Luchenbach had a strong first quarter, scoring four of Oakland's eight first quarter points on 2-3 shooting. Breanne Beatty was crashing the glass in the first, pulling down four rebounds, including two offensive rebounds. Beatty finished with a team-high six rebounds.

The Golden Grizzlies' offense opened up in the second quarter, keeping pace with the Jaguars. Both teams put up 17 points in the second quarter, as Oakland couldn't trim down the 11-point lead before halftime.

IUPUI's Anna Mortag was the only player to reach double figures in the first half, she hit 2-2 threes and put up 10 quick points. After the first half, Sims led Oakland in scoring. Sims had seven points, hit her only three and went 2-2 from the free throw line.

Beatty and Luchenbach each had six for Oakland, rounding out their top scorers after 20 minutes. Beatty had four rebounds, tying her with Breanna Perry for the team-high. As a team, Oakland was outrebounded 20-11 by IUPUI in the first half.

IUPUI was making their shots at a higher rate than Oakland early, shooting 50% from the field and 43% from three. Oakland, conversely, shot 33% from the floor and 13% from three.

The Jaguars took control back in the third quarter, scoring 24 points on efficient 9-16 shooting. They hit half of their eight 3-point attempts in the third quarter. The rebounding margin grew more in the third quarter, IUPUI was able to extend their lead thanks to four early offensive rebounds.

After trailing 60-38 entering the fourth quarter, Oakland couldn't cut into the IUPUI lead any further. The Golden Grizzlies were outscored 14-11 in the final quarter, giving them a 74-49 loss to move to 2-2 in Horizon League standings.

With a pause in conference games, the women's basketball team gets a chance to face Central Michigan, Marshall University and Campbell University before resuming league play against the Milwaukee Panthers on Thursday, Dec. 30.
