ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland's Jamal Cain of men's basketball and Kahlaijah Dean of women's basketball have been named Oakland Student-Athletes of the Week presented by Prairie Farms.

Graduate senior Jamal Cain averaged 30.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks to lead the Oakland men's basketball team to a 1-1 record, highlighted by an 80-59 home-opening victory over Toledo. The Marquette posted career-high marks in points (29) and rebounds (17), along with three steals and two blocks against the Rockets. 

At No. 14 Alabama, Cain reached a career-high in points for the second-straight game, as he scored 31 points and added ten rebounds and three steals. Through four games, Cain is the only Division I player in the nation averaging over 20 points, ten rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game.

Senior Kahlaijah Dean scored 40 points over the week's two games, including 10 in the fourth quarter vs. Robert Morris, to propel the Golden Grizzlies to their first Horizon League victory of the season. Dean hit the go-ahead three to take a one-point lead after Oakland trailed the entire second half. She forced multiple turnovers in the fourth quarter as well, disrupting the Colonial offense. 

Dean was the leading scorer in the loss vs. Youngstown State, scoring 18 points to go along with three steals and four rebounds. Her big fourth quarter against Robert Morris gave Oakland their second win on the season, moving them to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in the conference.
