ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Thomas Giroux of Oakland men's golf was named to the Team Canada National Amateur Squad as announced by Golf Canada on Nov. 18.
Giroux was named Horizon League Men's Golfer of the Year in the spring of 2021 and has continued to show top skill in tournaments since. In August, he won the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship after carding a tournament total of 205 (-8). This fall, the senior won the Georgia State Invitational with 204 (-12) and tallied six birdies in the final round, shooting two-under-par.
"This is such a special and well-deserved honor for Thomas. Thomas has worked his butt off to get in this position, and I'm excited to see what the next steps in his career are," Head Coach Nick Pumford said.
Yearly selection to this prestigious team is held in November and is based on objective performance results reviewed by a committee. This program aims to cultivate the best golfers globally through support and services to top athletes. A full-time national golf coach leads the team.
Team Canada is a year-round program that incorporates fitness, sports psychology, nutrition, technique, equipment, and international competition. Each player is given a personalized program aiming to work to the athlete's specific needs. Physical, mental, and performance tests are given throughout the year to ensure the athletes fill all requirements and reach their full potential.
